How Bangladesh Whitewash the Series

Bangladesh were in trouble on Day 1 at 117 for 6. Then Litton Das played his career best innings in pressure. His 126 off 135 balls pulled Bangladesh from the edge to a competitive 278. Pakistan forced back with 232 in first inning but a 46-run first innings deficit that never felt comfortable.

Bangladesh’s second innings was started again with Mushfiqur Rahim’s masterclass of 137 with the partnership and supported by Litton’s 69. They both set Pakistan 437 to win on a turning Sylhet surface. No team ever wins chasing 437 on a Day 5 pitch in Bangladesh. Pakistan got to 358 runs all out in day 5 and bad luck for the Pakistan cricket team.

Khurram Shahzad stunts with 4 wickets in each innings and was only Pakistan’s standout performer across the 2nd test match against Bangladesh. Everyone else was either inconsistent or invisible at the wrong moment.

Day-by-Day Report of Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test 2026

Day 1: Litton Das Rescues Bangladesh

Bangladesh were 117 for 6 at drinks in the afternoon session. The pitch was damaging and Pakistan’s bowlers were on efforting hard and gripped the Bangladesh cricket team in earlier session in 2nd test. At last, Litton Das came to bat at number six and he decided to change the match situation with his bat. What a talented player he is.

He reached his century off 135 balls with amazing 13 fours and a six. His seventh wicket partnership with Taijul Islam was worth 50 in 82 balls. In partnership, they both pushed Bangladesh from crisis to 278 all out. For sure, without Litton Bangladesh might have been bowled all out for 180. That extra 100 runs changed the entire match.

Pakistan ended Day 1 at 21 for 0 in 6 overs. Pakistan debutant young openers Azan Awais out on 13, Abdullah Fazal out with only 8 runs. Unfortunately bad day for pakistan team it was.

Day 2: Pakistan Collapse to 232 – Bangladesh Build Again

Pakistan began bat Day 2 at 21 for 0 and were 61 for 3 by till the drinks break. The tension began for Pakistan team as the top order disintegrated. Azan Awais, Abdullah Fazal, and Shan Masood all departed with low. Babar Azam was the anchor, reaching 50 off 63 balls before falling for 68. That was Pakistan’s highest score of the innings.

At 150 for 6 at drinks in the afternoon, the innings was collapsing in real time. Mohammad Rizwan could not prevent it. Pakistan were bowled out for 232, conceding a 46-run first innings lead to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh came out and batted again with confidence. Mahmudul Hasan Joy hit 50 off 58 balls, Mominul Haque chipped in, and Bangladesh ended Day 2 at 110 for 3 in 26.4 overs. They were already building a match-winning lead.

Day 3: Mushfiqur Rahim Takes the Match Away

Day 3 was Mushfiqur Rahim’s day. He came in with Bangladesh needing to build a lead that would be unchaseable. He scored 137 off 178 balls, his partnership with Litton Das worth 100 for the fifth wicket across 156 balls.

Mushfiqur hit 9 fours and a six. He was patient when he needed to be and aggressive when the moment came. By the time Bangladesh were bowled out for 390, they had set Pakistan a target of 437 to win. On this pitch, on Day 4 and 5, that was as good as a declaration with 600 on the board.

Khurram Shahzad was Pakistan’s best bowler again, taking 4 for 86 in the second innings to finish with match figures of 8 for 167. He was outstanding in a losing cause.

Pakistan batted 2 overs before bad light stopped play. Score: 0 for 0. The chase had not even started but it already felt over.

Day 4: Masood and Rizwan Fight, Pakistan Reach 316 for 7

Day 4 was the day Pakistan fans allowed themselves a brief moment of hope. It should not have been.

Shan Masood, under enormous pressure for his batting form after 9 and 2 in the first Test, scored 71 off 82 balls. His third-wicket partnership with Babar Azam was 92 runs and gave Pakistan something to work with. Babar made 47 before Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught him down the leg side.

Masood fell for 71, caught at short leg off Taijul. Then Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan put on 134 for the sixth wicket, both reaching half-centuries. For a period Bangladesh were frustrated. Pakistan were not collapsing. The crowd at Sylhet was nervous.

But the maths was always brutal. Pakistan needed 437. They ended Day 4 at 316 for 7. They needed 121 more from 3 wickets on a turning Day 5 pitch. Rizwan was unbeaten on 75. Sajid Khan was with him on 8.

Hope is a cruel thing in cricket.

Day 5: Taijul Finishes It, Bangladesh Make History

Pakistan started Day 5 on 316 for 7 needing 121 from 3 wickets. Wet ground delayed the start. When play began, Rizwan and Sajid Khan extended their eighth wicket partnership to 50, pushing Pakistan past 350.

Then Taijul Islam took over.

Sajid Khan edged Taijul for 28. In the next over, Rizwan guided Shoriful Islam to Mehidy at gully for 94. The last wicket fell when Khurram Shahzad swung Taijul to deep midwicket and Tanzid Hasan, on debut, held the catch.

Taijul Islam finished with 6 for 120 in the fourth innings. Bangladesh won by 78 runs.

For the first time in their history, Bangladesh had won four consecutive Tests. They swept Pakistan 2-0. The Sylhet crowd erupted.

Player Ratings: Pakistan 2nd Test

PlayerRatingVerdict
Khurram Shahzad8/108 wickets in the match. Best Pakistan bowler and kept pressure alive throughout.
Mohammad Rizwan7/10Played a fighting 94 in the chase and nearly pulled off a miracle comeback.
Shan Masood6/10Important 71 in the fourth innings after a disappointing first innings effort.
Salman Agha6/10Scored a valuable 71 in the chase and remained one of Pakistan’s most reliable batters.
Babar Azam5/10Got starts in both innings with 68 and 47 but failed to convert into a match defining knock.
Azan Awais4/10Promising debut series overall but struggled in this Test with two low scores.
Sajid Khan5/10Added useful lower order runs but leaked runs with the ball on a spin friendly surface.
Saud Shakeel3/10Failed in both innings and could not make an impact during the match.
Abdullah Fazal4/10Could not continue his strong first Test form and fell cheaply in both innings.

Bangladesh Player of the Series: Mushfiqur Rahim

Mushfiqur Rahim scored 253 runs across the series. At 37 years old, in his own conditions, he was the difference between a competitive Bangladesh team and a dominant one.

His 71 in the first Test’s first innings, 22 in the second, then 22 in the second Test first innings followed by 137 in the second innings. That 137 at Sylhet was the innings that built the unchaseable target. Without it, Pakistan chases something around 380. Still hard but possible.

Mushfiqur was also the Player of the Series by a distance. No Pakistan batter came close to matching his consistency or his impact across both matches.

What This Bangla Wash Hurt Pakistan

Pakistan came to Bangladesh without a Test win here since 2015. They leave with a 2-0 series loss and zero WTC points. Here is the damage in plain terms.

Batting fragility exposed: Across both Tests, Pakistan’s top three collapsed early in three of the four innings. The only innings where the top order held was Azan Awais’s debut century in the first Test. That should not be a one-off.

Spin weakness on tour: Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took wickets at will in crucial moments. Pakistan’s batters, including some of the most experienced in world cricket, could not read the turning ball consistently enough when the match was on the line.

Khurram Shahzad the bright spot: Eight wickets across the match at Sylhet. He swung the ball, he hit the pitch hard, he gave Pakistan every chance. He is 24 years old and already looks like a genuine Test match wicket-taker. If Pakistan have a silver lining from this tour, it is him.

Australia arrive May 30: Pakistan now have 10 days before Australia arrive for three ODIs starting at Rawalpindi. The formats are different but the confidence is not. This is a Pakistan squad that needs a win badly. Read our full preview: Australia Tour Pakistan 2026 ODI Series
