Harbhajan Singh’s View on Sports Unity and Respect
The friendship between Indian superstar Neeraj Chopra and Pakistani javelin ace Arshad Nadeem is a beautiful reminder that sports transcend borders and unite us all. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes this camaraderie sends a powerful message.

On Thursday, in Paris, Nadeem clinched the gold medal with an incredible Olympic record throw of 92.97m, while defending champion Chopra took silver with his season’s best effort of 89.45m.
Harbhajan Singh on Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic Sportsmanship
“We’ve seen some heartwarming pictures of Neeraj and Nadeem chatting after the ceremony, each holding their flags and showing mutual respect. This demonstrates that sports can break down barriers and bring people together,” Harbhajan shared.
“It’s like when we played cricket against Pakistan. We were fierce competitors on the field, but off the field, we shared a great bond.”
Harbhajan, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, praised Chopra’s mother for her touching words after the javelin final.
“Neeraj’s mother said that the gold winner (Nadeem) is also a mother’s son, just like our own. It’s heartening to hear such sentiments, emphasizing that sports go beyond competition.”
He added, “Congratulations to Nadeem for winning the gold. And Neeraj? He remains our pride, our hero, our legend.”
Harbhajan highlighted how Chopra continues to inspire the younger generation both on and off the field.
