Four Iconic Stars Join the PCB Hall of Fame in 2024
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has honoured four cricket legends by inducting them into the esteemed PCB Hall of Fame for 2024. The latest inductees Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Saeed Anwar have left an indelible mark on Pakistan’s cricket legacy. This recognition places them among the nation’s greatest cricketers who have elevated the sport both locally and globally.
Honouring Legends in Pakistan Cricket History
These legendary players now join elite company, alongside luminaries like Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and others who have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame. To mark this honour, the PCB has planned formal ceremonies throughout the year, where the PCB Hall of Fame winners will receive commemorative caps and custom-designed plaques.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi applauded the inductees and their contributions, saying, “Each of these legends has set benchmarks in cricketing excellence. Together, they have inspired generations of cricketers and strengthened Pakistan’s place as a leading force in world cricket. They made the nation proud, both on and off the field.”
The Four Pakistani Cricket Legends of 2024
1. Inzamam-ul-Haq
An integral part of Pakistan’s cricket history, Inzamam-ul-Haq is celebrated as a genius with the bat. Representing Pakistan from 1991 to 2007, he was part of the iconic 1992 World Cup-winning side. With a staggering 11,701 runs in ODIs, he remains Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the format and has the third-highest tally in Test cricket with 8,829 runs. Beyond personal accolades, his consistent performances cemented his status as one of international cricket’s finest.
Reflecting on this honour, the former captain shared, “Being recognised by the PCB is both a privilege and a deeply personal milestone. I hope this inspires emerging cricketers to chase their dreams and achieve greatness.”
2. Misbah-ul-Haq
Known for his calm demeanor and leadership under pressure, Misbah-ul-Haq played from 2001 to 2017. He led Pakistan to its No. 1 ranking in Test cricket in 2016 and was an integral part of the team that triumphed in the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Misbah’s leadership style and adaptability made him one of Pakistan’s most influential captains.
Moved by the accolade, Misbah noted, “Joining Pakistan’s finest cricketers in the PCB Hall of Fame is an overwhelming honour. It reaffirms that the hours of hard work and dedicated service to the sport will always be celebrated.”
3. Mushtaq Mohammad
One of Pakistan’s first true all-rounders, Mushtaq Mohammad served as a player, captain, and coach. Leading Pakistan to their first Test victory in Australian conditions in 1977, he was known for his tactical brilliance. His long-standing career spanned from 1959 to 1979, and his coaching prowess later guided Pakistan to the final of the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
Mushtaq shared his heartfelt reaction, saying, “To be honoured so many years after my retirement reminds me how grateful I am to have served this great game. It shows the PCB’s continued respect for its cricketing pioneers.”
4. Saeed Anwar
Saeed Anwar redefined opening batting for Pakistan with his fearless and graceful stroke play. Representing Pakistan from 1989 to 2003, Anwar scored 31 international centuries and 68 fifties, becoming one of the most reliable openers in cricket’s history. His stunning 194 runs against India in 1997 still ranks among the most iconic batting performances in ODI history.
Discussing this lifetime honour, Saeed expressed, “I am humbled to be recognised alongside the heroes I looked up to as a young cricketer. This award serves as a reminder of the countless memories I’ve had representing Pakistan.”
