The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has reiterated Pakistan’s clear position regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, November 28, Naqvi emphasized the need for equality in cricketing ties between nations. His remarks come amid ongoing controversy surrounding India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, citing security concerns.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had proposed a hybrid model to accommodate India’s participation, but the PCB outright rejected the idea. Naqvi firmly stated, “If Pakistan can travel to India, the Men in Blue can visit Pakistan too. Whatever decisions we take will prioritize Pakistan cricket and uphold equality.”

In response to India’s stance, Mohsin Naqvi made it clear that Pakistan would not accept unequal arrangements. Referring to the recent ODI World Cup, where Pakistan played matches in India, Naqvi pointed out the disparity.
Future Cricket Ties and Implications
Naqvi’s remarks underscore the broader implications for future events, including Pakistan’s participation in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup and the 2026 T20I World Cup, both set to be hosted in India. The PCB chairman stressed that any decisions made by the ICC would require final approval from the Pakistan government.

As Jay Shah transitions from BCCI Secretary to ICC Chairman in December, Naqvi expressed hope that Shah would prioritize the ICC’s overall benefit. “When assuming such a significant role, it is crucial to think beyond national interests and consider what’s best for the organisation,” Naqvi stated.
