Pakistan’s legendary javelin Star and Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem is preparing to shine once again at the 26th Asian Athletics Championship 2025, happening in Gumi, South Korea from May 27 to 31. This marks his much-anticipated return to major competition after his historic win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he achieved a record-breaking 92.97-meter throw, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal.

With India’s Neeraj Chopra, his top rival, not participating in the championship, Arshad Nadeem gold medalist stands as the leading contender to clinch gold and continue his extraordinary legacy.

For the past five months, Arshad Nadeem gold medalist has been undergoing intense training at Punjab Stadium, Lahore. With a focus on refining his form and increasing throw strength, Nadeem is determined to deliver a standout performance.

“This is my first big event since the Olympics, and I’m pushing myself harder than ever,” said Arshad. “My goal is to outperform my previous best — my competition is with myself.”

His coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, echoed confidence in his form, adding, “He’s at his peak, both mentally and physically.”

Neeraj Chopra’s Absence

The absence of India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has become a pivotal advantage for Arshad Nadeem gold medalist. Chopra is focusing on the Doha Diamond League (May 16) and Neeraj Chopra Classic (May 24), opting out of the Asian Athletics Championship.

“The Classic clashes with my travel to Korea on May 22, so I respectfully declined,” Nadeem said.

Representing India instead will be Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh, both talented but less experienced at the international level.

“I stand a good chance to win gold because Neeraj is not competing,” Arshad told reporters. “Still, I focus only on my own performance.”

Despite political tensions, Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra have maintained mutual respect that transcends borders.

“Neeraj and I have a healthy competition. We lead the way for South Asia,” Arshad shared.

“Arshad is a good person who speaks respectfully. I like him,” Chopra told Indian media.

After the 2024 Olympics, where Arshad won gold and Neeraj silver, their families also shared kind words.

“Arshad is like my son too,” said Neeraj’s mother, Saroj Devi. “I prayed for Neeraj as well,” added Arshad’s mother, Razia Parveen.
