Pakistan to Deploy 17,000 Security Officers for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan is set to host the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, commencing on February 19, with matches scheduled in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. In preparation for the mega-event, the country is ramping up security measures, deploying a robust force of at least 17,000 security officers to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators.
The tournament will feature 11 matches, including the grand final, and serve as a significant opportunity for Pakistan to showcase its hosting capabilities. According to sources, the Punjab government has initiated comprehensive security preparations, assigning 12,500 officers across Lahore and Rawalpindi. A senior official revealed,
“Around 7,600 police officers, including specialized commandos, will oversee matches in Lahore, while 4,500 officers, including 411 from the Special Branch, will handle security operations in Rawalpindi.”
To bolster these efforts, snipers and aerial monitoring will be deployed, with Army support available if needed, ensuring round-the-clock security at team hotels, match venues, and on transit routes.
Karachi’s Role in Security Operations
Karachi, which will host the opening match of the Champions Trophy on February 19, is also gearing up for two tri-series games on February 12 and 14. A spokesperson for the Sindh police shared:
“Plans are being finalized, and at least 5,000 security personnel, including units from the Sindh police, will be deployed at the National Stadium, team hotels, and along travel routes.”
High-level meetings have already been held under the supervision of the Karachi commissioner to streamline security measures.
Rangers and Paramilitary Support
The tournament will also see active involvement from paramilitary Rangers alongside police forces, ensuring maximum security for players and fans alike. The strategic use of resources, including special commandos and advanced surveillance systems, underscores Pakistan’s commitment to providing a safe and smooth event.

This isn’t the first time Pakistan has faced security challenges in hosting international cricket. During the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan hosted only four matches, with the remainder shifted to Sri Lanka due to India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. Similar circumstances apply to the Champions Trophy, as India will play its matches in Dubai.
Despite this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is fully committed to hosting the tournament successfully. With Lahore and Rawalpindi hosting the majority of the matches and Karachi opening the event, the focus remains on delivering world-class cricket while ensuring top-tier security.
