Shoaib Akhtar Criticizes PCB's Hybrid Model

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar statement has stirred the cricketing world once again with his candid remarks regarding the hybrid model adopted for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With Pakistan set to co-host the event under a unique hybrid arrangement, Akhtar didn’t hold back, voicing his concerns about the decision while urging the Pakistan cricket team to focus on building a formidable squad capable of beating India on their home turf.

Former Pacer Shoaib Akhtar statement on Hybrid Model for ICC championship trophy 2025
"In terms of playing in India in the future, we should extend a hand of friendship and go there. My belief has always been, go to India and defeat them there. India mein khelo aur wahi unhe maarke aao (play in India and beat them on their home ground)," Akhtar stated during a recent interview.

What Is the Hybrid Model for ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

Under the hybrid model, Pakistan will host matches in its home venues, while all games involving India will take place in the UAE due to political tensions between the two nations. Semi-finals and the final will also be moved to Dubai if India qualifies; otherwise, they will be hosted in Pakistan.

The arrangement comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to travel to Pakistan, citing governmental restrictions. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) faced mounting pressure from both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI, leading to this compromise.

Shoaib Akhtar statement: Balancing Revenue and Rivalries

Acknowledging the PCB’s efforts, Akhtar highlighted their economic and strategic dilemmas.

"You are getting paid for hosting rights and revenue, and that's fine—we all understand it. Pakistan's stance is also reasonable. They should have maintained a strong position, why not? Once we are able to host the Champions Trophy in our country and they are unwilling to come, they should share the revenue with us at a higher rate. That's a good decision," he explained.

Unhe Maarke Aao – Shoaib Akhtar’s Rallying Cry

Akhtar’s call for aggressive preparation echoes a sentiment widely shared among Pakistani cricket fans. His famous phrase, “Unhe maarke aao,” reflects the passion and competitive spirit of cricket’s fiercest rivalry.

Akhtar’s advice extends beyond the field. He advocates for Pakistan to engage India in cricketing terms while maintaining a strong stance on revenue sharing and equitable hosting arrangements.

The Road Ahead for PCB and Pakistan Cricket Team

As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaches, Pakistan faces the dual challenge of managing off-field politics and building a team capable of delivering on-field triumphs. Akhtar’s vision of a dominant Pakistan team capable of defeating India on their home ground remains a goal that resonates deeply with fans and players alike.

The hybrid model may have set a new precedent, but for Shoaib Akhtar and millions of cricket enthusiasts, the ultimate victory lies in taking the battle to the field and proving Pakistan’s mettle where it matters most—on Indian soil.
