SAFF Women’s Championship 2024: India Beat Pakistan 5-2 in Dominating Opener

India kicked off their SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 campaign in style, beating Pakistan 5-2 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dangmei Grace shone with a brace, while Bala Devi scored her 50th international goal. The Indian women’s football team, ranked 68th in the world, dominated the match from the start, with goals from Grace (5’, 42’), Manisha Kalyan (17’), Bala Devi (35’), and Jyoti Chauhan (78’).

Despite Pakistan’s efforts, with Suha Hirani (45+2’) and Kayla Marie Siddique (47’) finding the back of the net, India sealed their fourth consecutive win over Pakistan in this tournament. The victory also saw two major milestones: captain Ashalata Devi reached 100 international appearances, and Bala Devi became the first Indian woman to net 50 international goals.

India will now face defending champions Bangladesh in their next Group A match on Wednesday, aiming to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
