How Bangladesh Clawed Back From 5 for 3

Fatima Sana opened the bowling and struck twice inside her first two overs. Dilara Akter top-edged a hack to Nashra Sandhu at mid-on. Two balls later, Sharmin Akhter was trapped lbw without scoring. Tasmia Rubab then had Juairiya Ferdous caught behind point by Nashra Sandhu. Bangladesh were 13 for 3 in the fifth over, with the top order gone for 13 runs combined.

Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostary rebuilt through the middle overs, adding a partnership that took Bangladesh past 70. Mostary fell lbw to Nashra Sandhu after a review upheld in Pakistan’s favour. Sultana, having anchored the innings to 36 off 38 balls, was caught by Saira Jabeen off Sadia Iqbal at 92 for 6.

Shorna Akter then changed the match on her own. She hit five boundaries in a 22-ball unbeaten 39, striking the final ball of the innings for four, and added 31 runs with Rabeya Khan to lift Bangladesh from 92 for 6 to 123 for 6.

Pakistan’s Collapse Was a Strangulation, Not a Slog

Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza put on 49 for the first wicket inside seven overs, the best start Pakistan have managed in three matches at this World Cup. Gull Feroza was the first to go, caught off Nahida Akter for 23. Muneeba followed in Nahida’s next over, also caught off Mostary, for 25.

What followed was not a wild collapse of mistimed shots. It was a slow strangulation. From 49 for 1, Pakistan added just 35 runs for the loss of seven wickets across the next ten overs.

Sanjida Akter Meghla removed Ayesha Zafar and Aliya Riaz in the same over. Fatima Sana, batting at No. 6, scored 10 off 17 balls before being caught by Shorna Akter off Nahida Akter, unable to clear long-on.

In Pakistan’s final seven overs, they scored just 16 runs and lost four wickets. Bangladesh’s spinners, Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla, finished with three wickets each, conceding under 5.5 an over between them. Pakistan never found the boundaries to relieve the pressure once their openers fell.

PCB’s Own Account

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s own match report described the result plainly: Pakistan Women were restricted to 100 for eight in pursuit of 124 as Bangladesh secured the 23-run win. PCB’s statement did not single out individual batting failures, focusing instead on the bowling effort that kept Bangladesh to 123.

Pakistan’s Fielding Was an Improvement

Nashra Sandhu took two clean catches, off Dilara Akter and Juairiya Ferdous, the kind of chances Pakistan had been shelling earlier in the tournament. Aliya Riaz, criticised through this World Cup for her fielding, held a good catch at long-on to remove Ritu Moni. Saira Jabeen took the catch that ended Sultana’s innings.

It did not matter. The bowling kept Bangladesh to a defendable total. The batting could not chase it down.

Three Matches, the Same Pattern

Against India, Pakistan were 52 for 1 after six overs before collapsing to 106 all out. Against South Africa, they fell to 29 for 5 in 5.4 overs before Fatima Sana’s 55 not out lifted them to 126. Against Bangladesh, they reached 49 for 1 before adding only 35 runs across the next ten overs.

Three different opponents, three different bowling attacks, the same pattern: a position of real advantage given away in the middle overs.

How Bangladesh Move Up

Bangladesh move to No. 3 in Group 1. Pakistan stay at No. 5, above only tournament debutants Netherlands, and are out of semi-final contention with two matches still to play in the group.
