Muscat, 21 October 2024: Today’s interesting match between PAK A vs OMAN Pakistan Shaheens secured their first win in the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup, overpowering Oman by 74 runs in their seventh match at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground. Chasing a steep target of 185-5, Oman struggled and ended their innings at 111-7 in 20 overs.

Shaheens’ Resilient Start After Early Losses

After opting to bat, Pakistan Shaheens were rocked early as Oman’s Muzahir Raza struck twice, removing openers Mohammad Haris and Yasir Khan cheaply, leaving the score at 13-2 within the first 3 overs. However, Qasim Akram (48 off 38 balls) led the recovery, building a crucial 72-run partnership with Omair Bin Yousuf (25 off 21 balls) to take the team to 79-2 at the halfway mark. Qasim entertained with three massive sixes and two boundaries but was dismissed just shy of a half-century, bowled by Samay Shrivastava.

 

Rohail Nazir and Arafat Minhas Lift the Shaheens

The middle-order duo of Rohail Nazir and Arafat Minhas ensured a strong finish, adding an unbeaten 69 runs for the sixth wicket. Rohail, playing his first match of the tournament, hammered 41 off 20 balls, while Arafat contributed with a brisk 31 off 15 balls. The pair blasted 38 runs in the last two overs, powering the Shaheens to 185-5—the highest team total in the tournament so far

Oman’s bowling was led by Muzahir Raza (2-29), with Samay, Sufyan Mehmood, and Wasim Ali picking one wicket each.

Oman’s Batting Struggles Under Pressure in PAK A vs OMAN

In reply, Oman faced early pressure from Pakistan Shaheens’ bowlers, managing just 34-1 in the powerplay. Qasim Akram dismissed opener Aamir Kaleem for 11, and the Omani batters found it difficult to keep up with the escalating run rate. Wasim Ali top-scored for Oman with 28 off 31 balls, but consistent breakthroughs by the Shaheens kept Oman at bay.

Zaman Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking 2-17, while Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Sufiyan Moqim chipped in with one wicket each.

Final Score: Oman finished their 20 overs at 111-7, falling 74 runs short of the target. Pakistan Shaheens will now face UAE in their next match on Wednesday, 23 October.
