Rizwan not selected. Pakistan’s most consistent white-ball batter over recent years is out of this ODI squad. The PCB has not stated a reason. Former captain Rashid Latif has openly questioned the call. Full analysis at Pakistan vs Australia ODI 2026 squad post.
Key Players to Watch
Four cricketers who could swing the Australia series Pakistan’s way.
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Sets the tone in powerplay overs with swing and pace. His knack for picking early wickets at Rawalpindi makes him the most dangerous bowler in the series opener.
Babar Azam
Returns after missing Bangladesh with 588 PSL 2026 runs at an average of 73.50. The most reliable anchor at number three. If he fires, Pakistan win this series.
Naseem Shah
Pakistan’s fastest bowler in this squad. Rawalpindi’s surface should give him early movement. His return adds the raw pace that the Bangladesh attack clearly missed.
Shadab Khan
First ODI squad since the 2023 World Cup. Wrist spin in the middle overs plus useful runs lower down is exactly what Pakistan need in Lahore conditions.

Pakistan ODI Team in 2026 – Current Standing
The Champions Trophy 2025 marked Pakistan’s toughest ODI patch in years. Back-to-back defeats against New Zealand and India ended their campaign early and forced selectors to rethink the squad’s shape.
A deliberate reset followed. Rizwan lost the T20I captaincy, then the ODI captaincy, and is now out of the Pakistan ODI squad for this series. Shaheen Afridi is the captain the PCB is rebuilding around heading into the 2027 World Cup cycle. The three uncapped picks (Rohail Nazir, Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas) show the selectors are pairing depth with experience.
Babar Azam’s return gives the batting order the anchor it lacked in Bangladesh. His PSL 2026 form (588 runs at 73.50) shows he arrives in good touch. On home pitches, against an Australian side adjusting to subcontinental conditions, this Pakistan ODI squad has a genuine shot at winning the series.
