LAHORE: The Pakistan probable squad for Australia tour and the upcoming T20 World Cup is expected to take final shape this week as the Pakistan Cricket Board moves closer to an official announcement.

According to sources, the PCB will hold its final round of consultations once head coach Mike Hesson returns to Lahore following the Sri Lanka tour.

PCB Set for Final Consultation Before Squad Announcement

Members of Pakistan’s T20 squad are returning home today after completing the Sri Lanka series. Final discussions will involve head coach Mike Hesson, captain Salman Ali Agha, and the national selectors.

Once the consultation process is completed, the squad will be submitted for approval to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after which an official announcement is expected.

Sources confirm that the PCB has already sent an initial list of players to the ICC. The board has the flexibility to make changes to the list until January 31 without ICC approval, keeping selection options open.

While Cricket Australia has yet to make an official announcement, sources indicate that Australia are likely to field a white-ball focused squad for the Pakistan tour, with workload management in mind ahead of their packed international calendar.

The emphasis is expected to be on pace depth, finishing power, and tactical flexibility, rather than a full-strength senior lineup.

Mitchell Marsh (captain) | Travis Head | Josh Inglis | Tim David | Glenn Maxwell | Marcus Stoinis | Cameron Green | Ashton Agar | Adam Zampa | Mitchell Starc | Josh Hazlewood | Pat Cummins (subject to workload)

Reserve/backup options:
Matthew Short, Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson

What This Means for the Pakistan vs Australia Series

As Umair Hussain, Khelo Pakistan cricket expert, explains, Australia’s likely approach suggests a fast-paced, aggressive brand of cricket, built around power-hitters and an experienced pace attack.

For Pakistan, facing such a squad at home will provide a realistic World Cup rehearsal, particularly against high-quality pace and middle-overs spin pressure.
