Khurram Shahzad Biography
Khurram Shahzad is one of the most determined fast bowlers Pakistan has produced in the last decade. Born on 25 November 1999 in Malakwal, a small city in the Mandi Bahauddin District of Punjab, he grew up in an area where hard-ball cricket facilities were almost nonexistent.
He played tape-ball as a child and when he felt ready to take the next step, he simply moved. First to Sargodha for club cricket, then to Lahore where he joined the Aligarh Club and started to get proper coaching and exposure. That kind of determination to seek out opportunity rather than wait for it to arrive is the thread that runs through everything he has done since.
His first big break came in 2017 when, ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, he was selected by the National Cricket Academy to bowl in the nets for the Pakistan national squad so they could prepare for the tournament. That is the kind of recognition that changes a career trajectory.
He made his first-class debut for Habib Bank Limited in October 2017 and spent the next six years quietly accumulating wickets on the domestic circuit. By the time his Test call came he had taken over 200 first-class wickets at under 26, with fifteen five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket match hauls. The groundwork was done long before Pakistan selectors looked his way.
His Test debut came on 14 December 2023 at the Optus Stadium in Perth against Australia, one of the most demanding bowling venues in world cricket. He held his own and went on to play seven Tests.
