The Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 venue issue has come into sharp focus after the country’s sports advisor publicly ruled out India as a host, citing safety and political concerns. Bangladesh have instead signalled readiness to play their ICC T20 World Cup fixtures 2026 in Pakistan or at a neutral venue if required.

Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 Venue Concerns Explained

Speaking on January 12, Bangladesh sports advisor Asif Nazrul said the current environment in India makes it unsafe for Bangladeshi cricketers to travel for the tournament.

He pointed to rising anti-Bangladesh sentiment and past incidents involving Bangladeshi players as key reasons behind the stance.

“We believe that given the extreme communal situation prevailing in India and the anti-Bangladesh environment, it is impossible for Bangladesh to play cricket in India,” Nazrul said.

He also questioned the ICC’s handling of venue flexibility, suggesting Bangladesh should be allowed alternatives under the circumstances.

Pakistan Considered a Safer Alternative by Bangladesh

With India ruled out, Pakistan has emerged as an acceptable option for Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches. Nazrul confirmed there would be no hesitation in sending the team to Pakistan, UAE, or Sri Lanka if required.

“Host it in Pakistan, no problem; host it in the UAE, no problem,” he added.

What This Means for Bangladesh’s World Cup Campaign

Bangladesh’s full T20 World Cup 2026 schedule has already been announced, but the venue dispute could force last-minute adjustments. Any change would require ICC approval and coordination with host boards, adding pressure ahead of the global event.

For Bangladesh, player safety remains the priority as preparations continue.
