Test cricket is and has always been my highest priority,” Starc said. “I have loved every minute of every T20 game I have played for Australia, particularly the 2021 World Cup, not just because we won but the incredible group and the fun along the way.”

Mitchell Starc Future Focus

From mid-2026, Australia faces Tests against Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, India, a one-off England match, and an Ashes series. The 2027 ODI World Cup follows in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

“Looking ahead to an away Indian Test tour, the Ashes and an ODI World Cup in 2027, I feel this is my best way forward to remain fresh, fit and at my best for those campaigns,” Starc said. “It also gives the bowling group time to prepare for the T20 World Cup.”

Starc Impact and Replacement

Starc’s swing and yorkers are hard to replace. Australia won 14 of 17 T20Is without him recently.

“We’re not going to find someone swinging at 145kph,” selector George Bailey said. “Nathan Ellis, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, and Xavier Bartlett can step up with adjusted roles.”

Khelo Pakistan Perspective

From Khelo Pakistan, Starc Announces Retirement from T20I and exit benefits Pakistan’s batters, who struggled against his swing, like 3/11 in 2012. His focus on Tests and ODIs raises challenges for 2027.
