Why Captain Fatima Sana Was Reprimanded by the ICC

During the 13th over of the match, Fatima Sana was dismissed caught behind off Lara McBride’s delivery. The captain visibly expressed dissent at the umpire’s decision, violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.”

She was charged with a Level 1 offence, resulting in an official reprimand and one demerit point added to her disciplinary record. Fatima Sana accepted the charge without the need for a formal hearing.

What This Means for Pakistan Women’s Cricket

The reprimand and suspension come at a critical time for Pakistan, just as the team is preparing for the next T20I in Dublin. Fatima Sana’s demerit point is her first offence, but if she accumulates four or more in a 24-month period, it could lead to a match ban.
