Awais Zafar Biography

Muhammad Awais Zafar, known in Pakistan domestic cricket simply as Awais Zafar, is a right-handed middle-order batter from Sargodha, Punjab, born on 10 May 2000. He has built his reputation the traditional way: through consistent first-class run-scoring rather than early franchise fame, and it is that steadiness that has now carried him into the Multan Sultans squad for PSL 2026.

Zafar came through Punjab’s age-group system, representing Sargodha Under-19s, Faisalabad Region Under-19s and Pakistan Under-19s before graduating into senior domestic cricket with Faisalabad Region, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Higher Education Commission and Nurpur Lions. His first-class debut came on 22 September 2023, playing for Faisalabad against Lahore B in Rawalpindi. Since then he has featured in 34 first-class matches, scoring 2,278 runs at an average of 42.98, with seven centuries and ten half-centuries.

His highest score of 178 not out remains his career-defining innings and places him among the more prolific young red-ball batters currently coming through Punjab’s domestic circuit.

In List A cricket he has scored 432 runs from 17 matches at 39.27, topped by a score of 108 not out, having made his debut against FATA at Mirpur on 11 November 2023.

His T20 record shows a different gear entirely: 334 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 126.03, including two half-centuries, since debuting for Lions against Markhors in Rawalpindi on 7 December 2024. That combination of first-class solidity and improving T20 tempo is what has made him a viable middle-order option for Multan Sultans.

He most recently featured for Sui Northern against WAPDA in Lahore in February 2026, and played a T20 for Kings against Sultans in Karachi in April 2026. With franchise exposure now added to a growing first-class résumé, Awais Zafar is positioned as one of the batters to track through the 2026 domestic and PSL season.
