ICC warns PCB over India match boycott

Pakistan’s decision to skip the India match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has triggered a strong response from the International Cricket Council, which warned the move could damage both Pakistan cricket and the global game.

The ICC said selective participation goes against the core principles of a world event and risks undermining sporting integrity, fairness, and competitive balance.

The warning follows a government directive instructing Pakistan not to play India in the February 15 group match in Colombo, while still taking part in the rest of the tournament.

In a firm statement, the ICC said it was yet to receive official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board but made clear that such a stance is difficult to justify in an international competition.

The world body stressed that all qualified teams are expected to compete under a common schedule, without exception.

The ICC also cautioned that the consequences may extend beyond the current tournament, potentially affecting Pakistan’s standing within the international cricket framework.

ICC warns PCB Over India match boycott threatens global cricket order

The ICC said its events are built on sporting integrity, consistency, and fairness, and any deviation from full participation weakens the spirit of global competition.

While acknowledging the role of governments in national decisions, the ICC stated that the boycott is not in the interest of the game or its worldwide fanbase, including millions of supporters in Pakistan.

Officials warned the PCB to consider the long-term impact of the decision, noting that Pakistan is both a member and beneficiary of the global cricket ecosystem.

The governing body also highlighted concerns around commercial agreements and broadcast commitments, with the India-Pakistan match widely regarded as the most valuable fixture of the tournament.

Industry estimates suggest the absence of the clash could cost the ICC and broadcasters between 200 and 300 million dollars, a loss that could affect future event planning.

Despite the standoff, the ICC reiterated that its immediate priority remains the smooth delivery of the T20 World Cup and urged all member boards to work toward a mutually acceptable solution.

With the tournament just days away, the unresolved issue has added fresh uncertainty to Pakistan’s campaign and placed the PCB under intense international scrutiny.
