GTA 6 is being released for the current PlayStation and Xbox generation. There is currently no confirmed PC version or PC release date.
PlayStation 5
PS5 is one of the main platforms for GTA 6. If you already own a PS5, you don’t need a special console model to play the game.
PS5 Models
GTA 6 is relevant to the following PS5 models:
- PS5 Disc Edition
- PS5 Digital Edition
- PS5 Slim
- PS5 Slim Digital Edition
- PS5 Pro
The main difference between these models is their hardware configuration and features, not basic GTA 6 compatibility.
PS5 Storage
The game will require free storage for installation and future updates. The final GTA 6 storage requirement has not been announced yet.
If your PS5 storage is already crowded, it is worth clearing space before launch rather than waiting until release day.
PS5 Display
You can use GTA 6 with a compatible TV or monitor. A 4K display can provide a better visual experience, while HDR can improve contrast and color when supported.
However, don’t assume that a 4K screen means GTA 6 will always render at native 4K.
PS5 Controller
GTA 6 is designed for PS5, so the standard DualSense controller is the natural choice. Specific GTA 6 features such as advanced haptic effects or adaptive trigger behavior should only be treated as confirmed when Rockstar provides the details.
PS5 Pro and GTA 6
PS5 Pro is the higher-performance PS5 option, making it interesting for players who want stronger console hardware.
What is still unknown is how GTA 6 will specifically use that extra hardware. Resolution, frame-rate modes, ray tracing and other PS5 Pro enhancements should not be treated as confirmed until they are officially detailed.
Xbox Series X|S
GTA 6 is also coming to Microsoft’s current Xbox generation. Both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are supported.
Xbox Series X
Series X is the more powerful Xbox console and is the better fit for players who want higher-end console hardware and a large 4K display.
For GTA 6, you’ll need:
- Xbox Series X
- Enough free storage
- Compatible display
- Xbox Wireless Controller
- Reliable internet connection
The final GTA 6 resolution and frame-rate targets for Series X have not been announced.
Xbox Series S
Xbox Series S gives players a lower-cost way to enter the current Xbox generation.
It is officially supported for GTA 6, but its hardware is different from Series X. Therefore, the final visual settings and performance may not match the higher-end console.
Rockstar has not yet provided the final GTA 6 resolution or FPS details for Series S.
Series X vs Series S
| Feature | Xbox Series X | Xbox Series S |
|---|---|---|
| GTA 6 | Yes | Yes |
| Disc drive | Yes | No |
| Digital games | Yes | Yes |
| 4K display support | Yes | Yes |
| GTA 6 resolution | TBA | TBA |
| GTA 6 FPS | TBA | TBA |
| Best suited for | Higher-end setup | Lower-cost setup |
The biggest difference is hardware level. Both can play GTA 6, but Series X is designed for a more powerful console experience.
GTA 6 on PC
PC players are still waiting for an announcement.
There is currently no confirmed GTA 6 PC version, PC release date, or official system requirements. That means websites publishing exact minimum specifications should not present them as Rockstar’s requirements.
GTA 6 PC System Requirements
| PC Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating System | TBA |
| CPU | TBA |
| RAM | TBA |
| GPU | TBA |
| VRAM | TBA |
| DirectX | TBA |
| Storage | TBA |
| SSD | TBA |
| Internet | TBA |
What PC Hardware Matters for GTA 6?
When a PC version is announced, these components will be the most important:
CPU: Important for the game’s world simulation, traffic, NPCs and background processes.
GPU: Handles rendering, resolution, textures, lighting and other graphics features.
VRAM: Helps the graphics card manage high-resolution textures and demanding visual settings.
RAM: Provides system memory for the game and Windows.
SSD: Fast storage is useful for large open-world games that constantly load and stream world data.
These are general PC gaming considerations, not official GTA 6 requirements.
GTA 6 on Steam or Epic Games
There is currently no confirmed Steam or Epic Games version because a PC release itself has not been announced.
If Rockstar announces GTA 6 for PC later, its supported storefronts can be added to this page.
PS4 and Xbox One
GTA 6 is not currently announced for PS4 or Xbox One.
The game’s announced console platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players using older-generation consoles should not expect a launch version unless Rockstar announces one.
GTA 6 Hardware & Setup
Your console is only one part of the setup. Your TV, storage, controller and internet connection can also affect how convenient the GTA 6 experience is.
TV and Monitor
A modern 4K TV is a good choice for players who want a larger, sharper image. A gaming monitor can make more sense if you prefer a desk setup.
You don’t need a special GTA 6 monitor or TV.
4K
PS5 and Xbox Series X support 4K displays. Xbox Series S can also connect to 4K displays, although that does not mean every game renders at native 4K.
The final GTA 6 resolution modes remain TBA.
HDR
HDR can improve brightness, contrast and color range on compatible displays.
If you’re buying a new TV for GTA 6, HDR support is worth considering, but don’t buy a television solely because of an unconfirmed GTA 6 graphics mode.
120Hz
A 120Hz display can be useful for games that support higher frame rates.
However, a 120Hz TV does not automatically make GTA 6 a 120 FPS game. The actual frame-rate modes depend on Rockstar’s final implementation.
Storage
Keep plenty of free storage available for GTA 6, updates and other games.
The final GTA 6 installation size is currently TBA, so avoid relying on leaked storage figures presented as official.
Internet Connection
A stable internet connection will be useful for downloading the game, updates and accessing online services.
There is no need for a special internet package specifically for GTA 6. The main concern is having enough bandwidth and data allowance for a large game download.
Controller
For console players, the standard controller is the obvious option:
- PS5: DualSense
- Xbox Series X|S: Xbox Wireless Controller
- PC: Keyboard and mouse or a compatible controller, if a PC version is released
GTA 6-specific controller features should be confirmed before being treated as guaranteed.
