The Hockey Champions Trophy is the International Hockey Federation's most prestigious annual event since 1978. It was proudly founded by Pakistan's Air Marshal Nur Khan; it features the world's top-ranked teams. The Pakistan Hockey Federation started the competition as a men's tournament in 1978. The tournament has been an annual event since 1980 for men and since 1987 for women.

Australia has won the event 11 times while Germany has been successful 9 times in the tournament.

Netherland prevail the title 8 times with Spain having a title to their name on single occasion. Pakistan has been champion of the event in 1978, 1980 & 1994.

Now 2011 is the year and Auckland is ready to host Men Champions trophy where Australia will defend the title. Eight Teams have been divided in two groups.

Group A: Pakistan, Australia, Spain, England

Group B: Germany, Netherland, Korea, New Zealand

Pakistan Hockey team has made their way to Auckland on Saturday, under the captaincy of Muhammad Imran. Green Shirts has to start their battle from Group A which includes the heavy weights like Australia, Spain and England.

Green team is currently ranked at 8 but they are capable enough to beat any side in the world. Confidence will be sky high after becoming Asian champions and beating No.1 ranked side Australia in recent Tri-nation series. Conditions will not be an issue for our lads as they accomplished their previous challenge in Australia which has pretty similar conditions to New Zealand.

In this day and age when Heavyweight Boxing is looking for a inspiration and a true world champion, it has lost a true great. After being diagnosed with Liver Cancer in late September, this year, Joe Frazier has lost his fight as he passed away in hospital.

Smokin Joe, as he was so lovingly called, won the Olympic Gold medal in 1964 and duly took up professional boxing. He beat Muhammad Ali in 1971, which was named 'the fight of the century' before losing his first fight against George Foreman two years later to lose his world title. He then went on to beat Joe Bugner before losing a rematch against Ali.

He then had a shot at the world title against Ali in 1975, which he lost and then retired the next year after being beaten by Foreman.

A record of 37 fights, 32 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses (against Ali and Foreman) show's how good a fighter he was. A boxer, if fighting in this era, would dominate the world stage. Smokin Joe will forever be missed.

The 25 year old Spaniard, the King Of Clay, and the person who is considered by many to be the greatest player ever to play the game has been on a shaky run this year.

The major problem for Rafa this year seems to be the one and the only man ,NOVAK DJOKOVIC,who has been in a truly sensational form winning 3 Grandslams and 5 ATP World Tour Titles in the 2010-2011 season so far.

Things seemed normal when Nadal lost to Djokovic in the final of BNP Paribas Open 2011 but they started getting fishy when Rafa again lost to Novak, this time in the final of Miami Masters 2011.From there onwards ,the Mallorcan has lost 6 battles against Nole ,each of them coming in tournament finals and the sentences like “…he’s done some unbelievable stuff” and “he has accomplished what is impossible to repeat..”have become very common in Rafa’s post match press conferences.

This bad patch for Nadal has become even more significant after his loss to Andy Murray in the final of Rakuten Open Tennis Tournament this past Sunday.

One of the most obvious reasons for Nadals losses (especially in the finals of tournaments)is that the repeated defeats from djokovic have distorted his mindset a lot and he hasn’t been able to fully concentrate on his game.
