DilshanAfter a slightly disappointing start of the tournament, the Super 8 stage was set to provide some thrilling encounters. And that was the case with the very first match, between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Sri Lanka, the home team, were the favourites to win but the odds were closer than they seemed.

It was a great start for the Super-8 stage. New Zealand put everything in this match but just couldn’t beat the home team and one of the favourites to win this Cup. Sri Lanka are now just one win away from the semi-finals as they face West Indies on Saturday and England on Monday. New Zealand, on the other hand, now have to win both their next games, against England on Saturday and against West Indies on Monday to qualify for the semi-finals.

PCTIt has been simply a marvellous week for Pakistan fans for not only did the handsomest macho men in the cricket biz win their latest World Cup T20 match against Bangladesh, they did it with the style that only they have.

I wish to congratulate both teams on a pretty good match.  Pakistan deserves cake, and Shakib Al-Hasan deserves cake for his heroic effort.

How the ICC world Twenty20 will work

The ICC World Twenty20 is around the corner and all teams have announced their respective squads. There are a few changes to the way the tournament is set up and the way the Super Eights. would work this time around. So that travelling fans can make easier arrangements of which match tickets they should book along with hotels, teams have been seeded.

As you can see below, England, Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the top seeds of their groups and India, West Indies, South Africa and New Zealand are second seeds. The third remaining team is non seeded. All seeds have been given their seed number, e.g England is A1, Pakistan D1, and India A2.

Group A – England (A1), India (A2), Afghanistan
Group B – Australia (B1), West Indies (B2), Ireland
Group C – Sri Lanka (C1), South Africa (C2), Zimbabwe
Group D – Pakistan (D1), New Zealand (D2), Bangladesh

Teams will play their respective two group games and then the two top finishing teams will go into the Super Eights. The way it works is that, say even if Pakistan finish second in their group they will remain D1, the team finishing second doesn't take that seed. If, say Pakistan were knocked out in the opening stages, Bangladesh would get the seed D1, irrespective of them finishing first or second. New Zealand would remain D2. If New Zealand were knocked out, Bangladesh would take D2. In simpler terms, the non seeded team would take the seed number of the team that has been knocked out.

Super Eight (S8) Groups
Group 1 - A1, B2, C1, D2
Group 2 - A2, B1, C2, D1

If all seeds go through then the groups would look like;
Group 1: England, West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Group 2: India, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan.

"Whenever I play, I am representing the Pakistani image" :Abdur Rehman
Today, an explosive spell of bowing by Pakistan left arm spinner, Abdur Rehman saw him acclaim his career best figures of 9-65. Bowling for Somerset against Worcestershire at Taunton, Rehman put in a spell 24 overs that showed why he's one of the most consistent performers on the world stage. Only Peter Trego picking up the eighth wicket of the innings, denied Rehman the chance to capture the perfect ten.

Speaking to KheloPakistan's Imran Asghar after the days play, Rehman was understandably pleased with his performance. "I am really happy that I performed for my team. I am bowling with good rhythm at the moment and hope to take this experience with me when I return to Pakistan". He added "Playing in these conditions will InshAllah help me in the future. If and when required and I play for Pakistan in these shores, I will have experience of these conditions".

Already having a Test fifty to his name, Rehman was adamant that not only his bowling but batting and fielding was coming on leaps and bounds. "After games and days off my time is spent in the nets. I am working really hard on my batting. I see batting as a important aspect to my game". Though Rehman primarily plays as a specialist bowler for Pakistan, he looks at it differently, "It is essential that I contribute with the bat when I play. It would be wrong for me to think that I have bowled and done my job. I genuinely believe I can became a good batsman".
