Day-8 at the French Open 2012 was much awaited for, as the road to the main stages of the tournament started off from the fourth round matches scheduled for Sunday.
In the first men's encounter on Court Suzanne Lenglen ,World No. 3 Roger Federer was tested early in his fourth-round meeting with lucky loser David Goffin Sunday at Roland Garros, eventually defeating the Belgian 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4.Against Goffin, who idolised the Swiss as a child, Federer fired 12 aces and won 82 per cent of his first serve points to advance in two hours and 54 minutes. "Obviously in some ways I guess it's tough for me coming out not knowing exactly what his favourite patterns are in the game, the way he serves, when he does what. But, no, he impressed me, and I enjoyed the match today",the Swiss Maestro said after the match.
In his encounter with Andreas Seppi on Court Philippe Chatrier, the World No.1 survived a near-exit from the tournament.Djokovic lost the initial two sets 2-6 6-7. But then came back strongly to book his place in the quarter-finals by winning the next three sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.It’s the first time Djokovic has come back from two sets down since edging Roger Federer in the 2011 US Open semi-finals.In the final eight, the 25-year-old Serb will square off against fifth seed Jo Wilfred-Tsonga, or No. 18 seed Stanislas Wawrinka.
In some other matches, the Women's World No.1 Victoria Azarenka was stunned by Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets 6-2 7-6(4). Jo-Wilfred Tsonga was all square against Wawrinka in the fifth set when play was stopped due to bad light. The Big-serving Argentine Del Potro also had a lead over Tomas Berdych when their match was postponed due to bad light. The Italian Sara Errani also shocked the tennis world when she upset Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-0 7-5.
The Prince of Pakistan Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi alongwith his dutch partner Rojer Jean Julien also claimed an easy victory against Dominic Inglot and Treat Conrad Huey in straight sets 6-1 6-4 to cruise into the quarter-finals of Roland Garros 2012. Aisam just has to win two more matches to make his way into the final of French Open 2012 and qualify for the London Olympics 2012.
