Rafael Nadal has resigned as Vice-president of the ATP Players Council, saying he can no longer give the job the attention it needs."I don't have enough energy," Nadal said Tuesday. "I cannot still put in my 100 percent there."Nadal had pushed unsuccessfully for a two-year ranking system, a proposal opposed by other players, including council president Roger Federer.
The Prince of Pakistan Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi suffered a knee injury and has now withdrawn from Pakistan's Davis Cup semi-final of Asia/Oceania group against Phillipines . He will be out of action for atleast two months . Aisam's physiotherapist has warned him that in case he doesn't take rest , his injury may become worse which could lead to him being out of action for a year .
Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Maria Sharapova 7-5, 6-4 to capture the 2012 Sony Ericsson Open title.Sharapova is now the runner-up in four Sony Ericsson Open finals. Radwanska improves her career titles mark to nine and this is her fourth since the summer.Radwanska also beat Venus Williams in the route to the finals and won every set she played thereafter.
World No.1 ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic successfully defended his Miami title against British Sensation Andy Murray on Sunday defeating the brit 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and 18 minutes. Djokovic had booked his place in the final by routing Juan Monaco in straight sets.He has now joined Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras as the only men to win three or more Miami titles and is the first back-to-back champion since Roger Federer in 2005-06.
Mardy Fish of the United States and Gael Monfils of France will both miss this weekend's Davis Cup quarterfinals.The No. 9 Fish is pulling out because of a health scare.Ryan Harrison is replacing Fish on the U.S. roster.Monfils will sit out because of an abdominal injury. He started experiencing pain during practice Sunday and an MRI test showed a lesion on his left oblique muscle. He will need to rest for 15 days.
