The Faysal Bank T20 Super Eight headed into its Second day and after a fitting start to the tournament, thanks to the Exciting T20 Cricket played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, The Second day also promised to provide enthralling Cricket to the passionate spectators, as Sialkot Stallions were scheduled to play against Lahore Eagles in the First match, whereas the hosts and the Defending Champions
Rawalpindi Rams were all set to begin their Title Defense in their first match against the tournament front runners the mercurial Karachi Dolphins.
In the first game Lahore Eagles batted first against Sialkot Stallions. The Stallions Captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and elected to field first. The start to the Eagle’s innings was more than disastrous as they lost three important Batsmen Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar and Humayun Farhat within the first six overs. The loss of the big 3 proved to be big setback for the eagles as they never recovered and managed an ordinary score of 129 in the 20 overs that too courtesy a late flourish from Saad Naseem who scored 27, Ali Azmat, Azhar Ali and Taufeeq Umar also got starts but were unable to convert their 20’s into something substantial. Bilawal Bhatti was the star with the ball for Sialkot as He claimed 3 wickets conceding 33 runs; Raza Hassan also grabbed 2 wickets. Sialkot Innings started with a disaster too as their Big gun and Darling of the crowd Imran Nazeer got out to Mohammad Khalil on the very first ball of the innings. But Sialkot proved why they are an excellent T20 Side, they understood the situation that Heroics are not required and score is manageable without taking undue risks. Captain Shoaib Malik and Wicket Keeper Batsman Shakeel Ansar guided the innings and after both of them got out Lahore were looking to make an upset however experienced Shahid Yousuf and Ali Khan ensured that there were no further hiccups and they chased down the score in the 19th over. Sialkot won the match by 5 wickets. Shahid Yousuf was declared the Man of the Match for his timely 27 runs and excellent fielding efforts. The Lahore Eagles had its moments however the Sialkot Stallions once again showed their class and professionalism.
The second game was between the two favorite teams, Home side Rawalpindi Rams locked horns with Karachi Dolphins. Rams Captain Sohail Tanvir won the toss and He elected to field as well. The Dolphins innings suffered an early blow as Hard Hitting Batsman Shahzeb Hassan got out in the second over of the innings, Hassan managed only 5. However other Opener the talented Khalid Latif continued his good form from the Domestic One Day Cup and took the Pindi bowling apart with his belligerent hitting. Latif was severe on the spinners and also attacked Sohail Tanvir in the 19th over of the innings hitting 3 boundary fours of consecutive deliveries. Latif got support good support from Asad Shafiq and Rameez Raja who scored 31 and 28 respectively. The Dolphins innings ended at 171/4 in the allotted 20 overs thanks largely to Khalid Latif. For the Home side Yasir Arafat was the best bowler who took 2 wickets otherwise the bowling lineup was made to look ordinary by Khalid Latif. Rawalpindi Rams had high hopes from their Dynamic Duo opening the batting, Awais Zia and Naveed Malik. But Awais Zia failed to live up to the expectations of the Home crowds and was trapped leg before for just 1 by Tanvir Ahmed. The innings never took off as it should have, chasing a big total. Naveed Malik scored a brisk 50 but He never got any support from His fellow batters. Hammad Azam, Umar Amin, Sohail Tanvir and Yasir Arafat all were removed cheaply by the Karachi bowlers. When Naveed Malik was bowled by Haris Ayaz for 59 it was all over for Rawalpindi as they were reduced for 103/8. Mohammad Nawaz offered late resistance scoring 37 and He was the last man out. Rawalpindi did not manage to bat out the 20 overs
and were bundled out for 139 in 18.3 overs. For Karachi Dolphins Left Arm Spinner Faraz Khan and Fast Bowler Sohail Khan claimed 3 wickets each. Khalid Latif was declared the Best Player of the Match for his Brilliant 88 Runs.
