Exclusive Interview With Zeshan Rehman

The most famous Pakistani Football Player Zeshan Rehman was gracious enough to give an exclusive interview to KheloPakistan. The towering super star is known as Zesh Rehman by fans all over the world. He has started a football foundation which can be visited Zesh Rehman Foundation which focuses on football as a tool of change.

 

Zesh is the first Pakistani to:

  • Start a Premiership match
  • Play in all 4 leagues of professional football in England
  • Play in the FA Cup
  • Play in the Carling Cup


 

During a career spanning more than a decade, Zesh Rehman has played for many teams, here's a snapshot of his teams.

Where were you born?

England

 

Which part of Pakistan do you belong to?

Karachi

 

Where do you currently reside?

Hong Kong

 

Whats your educational background?

8 GCSE at Grade A-C. A levels in sports science in English and Physical Education

 

Which sports did you play in school/ college?

I played for schools in Surrey, England. I did not play for a college team as from 17-19 I was playing for the Fulham Youth Team.

 

 

 

Who is your favorite football player?

Rio Ferdinand

 

Your favorite team (club)?

Aston Villa


Your favorite team (international)?

Brazil

 

Do you follow and play any other sport?

Snooker


Your first club was?

Fulham

 

What was the most memorable moment when you were at Fulham?

My premier League Debut

 

Why?

As it was Liverpool FC, a ground with so much history

 

Which loan period proved to be most successful for you and why?

My loan to Brighton at 19 as I made my football League Debut and got to competitive games.

 


 

How do you sum up your time at QPR?

Eventful! In three years I had 7 different managers! That amount of change is not good for a player or club.

 

How many teams you have captained?

Bradford was the only football league team but in my younger days I was always Captain of the school, Youth Team and Reserve Team.

 

Why do you moved to Asia (Thailand)?

After 10 years in The Uk I wanted to experience a new Country, League and Culture.

 

What are your current aspirations with Kitchee?

To win the league in Hong Kong and to have a successful AFC Cup campaign with the club

 

You have very limited appearances for Pakistan. Why?

Due to playing most of my career in England it was not easy. Now being in Asia I can play a lot more.

 

Where do you see Pakistani football in the next 5 years?

Hopefully number one in South Asia, they have some good young talent which needs to be nurtured right.

 

What is your biggest accomplishment in your sports?

Knowing younger children from all back grounds look up to me, hopefully I can provide them with inspiration to follow their dreams in pursuing a career in the game.

 

What would be your ultimate achievement?

To get to the World Cup either as a player or coach.

 

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Don't wait for things to happen, make them happen.

 


Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

Yes. "day by day" I believe too many people worry about the past or future and forget to be in the present!

 

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

My family, my faith and in knowing inshallah that my career in the game will inspire children to follow.

 

Your message to young Asian athletes?

To follow your dream, work hard, make sacrifices, be prepared for set backs and never give up.
