Here's a round up of all the matches that took place in men's and women's singles draw on Day 9:
[2] R Nadal (ESP) d [7] T Berdych (CZE) 67(5) 76(6) 64 63
World No.2 Nadal will lock horns with arch rival Roger Federer in a Thursday night semi-final after taking out Berdych 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 6-3. The contest lasted for 4 hours and 16 minutes before the Spaniard eventually prevailed."I think the level of the third and fourth set for me was very, very high playing on these courts," said Nadal. "[I'm] very happy about how I finished the match. It's true it is difficult against a player like [Berdych], because you don't have chances on return. He hit the ball very, very hard and very flat. [It is] very difficult to find [any] rhythm."
[3] R Federer (SUI) d [11] J del Potro (ARG) 64 63 62
Meanwhile, Swiss Maestro Roger Federer out-classed Juan Martin DelPotro after an easy straight set win over the Argentine. It was Federer's 1000th tour level match. "I wish it was 1000 wins, but I'm happy with 1000 matches in total, too." said Federer." It's nice to win this one. I do not remember my 500, and that was the [2005] US Open final against [Andre] Agassi. It's a lot of matches and a lot tennis. Either I have been around for a long time or I'm extremely fit."
(11) Kim Clijsters (BEL) d. (1) Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) 63 76(4)
In the women's singles, World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki suffered defeat at the hands of former World No.1 Kim Clijsters. Clijsters will now face Azerenka in the semis. For Wozniacki though, the loss not only means she is out of the tournament, it also means she will surrender her No.1 ranking next Monday - in fact she will fall to at least No.3 (Petra Kvitova and Victoria Azarenka will be ranked ahead of her, and Maria Sharapova could be too, depending on the week's results).
(3) Victoria Azarenka (BLR) d. (8) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) 67(0) 60 62
No.3 seed Victoria Azrenka ousted Agnieszka Radwanska in a tight encounter in Melbourne Park on Tuesday.Azarenka bounced back from losing her first set of the tournament quite easily, bageling the Pole in a brief 26-minute second set. The Belarusian star kept the momentum in her favor and controlled the final set to improve to 7-3 lifetime against Radwanska, who has yet to reach a major semifinal. Azarenka reached her second Grand Slam semi, with her first one coming at Wimbledon last summer.
