I am a firm believer that ‘There’s always two sides to a coin’. So the question lately around the English footie world is ‘Was Suarez rightly banned?’ I intended on giving voice to my thoughts through the site on the subject but discovered that my colleague had already written a piece that would lead an uninformed and not so enthusiastic football fan to picture Luis as a racist, over-rated and worthless. But as you might have already guessed I beg to differ .So one may assert that the article ‘Oh Mr Suarez . Shame!’ is one side to that coin and my perception is the other . I lay down my arguments ! I'll try my best to take the bull by the horns and be concise. And you be the juge .
Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz(Uruguay) has enjoyed an illustrious career so far . It makes me almost sick to the stomach when people undermine his footballing genius .He was instrumental in taking his side to the World Cup 2010 semi finals , he scored three goals (two short of the golden boot award) and assisted many .In a tournament where stars considered to be the best players in the world such as Neymar and Messi took part he won the Player of the tournament in the ‘Copa America 2011’ which Uruguay ended up being victorious . Just goes to show the class of the man . Moreover, he has scored 111 goals in 159 appearances for Ajax spanning 4 seasons. Although his English adventure is primitive he has been clinical and mesmerising at times to say the least . You might undermine the Dutch league but surely his record internationally speaks miles . So any such allegation is either biased or from someone who doesn’t watch his football .

So coming to the preeminent issue here . Suarez hails from Uruguay where the language and culture is quite different . Cocoliche is spoken widely , a mix of Italian and Spanish . Learning about it recently myself , the Uruguayan use the word ‘Negro’ frequently and innocuously . I read an article on goal.com in which the writer describes how on a trip to Uruguay he overhears a clerk call a woman ‘Negra.’ The recipient took no offence very much to the bewilderment of the writer . Probably the most revered figure in the history of Uruguayan football is Obdulio Varela, captain of the side that won the World Cup in 1950. His nickname was "El Negro Jefe" - the black boss. Among Suarez's team-mates these days is Maxi Pereira, who is known as "El Mono" - the monkey. It is a nickname which, apparently, is given and accepted with no offence meant or taken. It appears to be used in the same spirit that Alvaro Fernandez is called "El Flaco", which means skinny. So there is an apparent faux pas .
So lets dwell into the chilly Anfield night where the match levelled out to finish at one all . Patrice Evra showed symptoms of distraught and bother .It’s been surfaced that Evra called Suarez a ‘Sudaca’ meaning a South America which is deemed as an insult to people from the continent who pursue life in Europe . Many analyst have also called upon Evra to be charged but that’s a whole different argument for another day . Suarez confessed to spilling out ‘El negrito’ but also alleges that he meant it as no offence and he picked it up from Evra's Man Utd team mates who call him that . Take into consideration that the above episode is a strong inference and will be only considered as fact when the FA publically releases a detailed report of the hearing .
There is no room for racism in this evolved and developed world let alone football , I agree. Patrice Evra is hundred percent correct on the stance he is taken . But the dilemma is the incapability , ignorance and clumsiness of the board . The term ‘witch hunt’ used by John Barnes is a true reflection of the judgement . FA has dealt with this case with a vision of setting a precedent for the future , but have utterly forgotten their primary obligation of being just . According to my humble assessment a three match ban would have been unbiased and scrupulous considering the circumstances. And that would still be conceivably considered harsh . But that is the only grey area available. The forty quid loss doesn’t effect a millionaire footballer like him and surely I reckon he isn’t worried about it anyway. It is widely certained that Suarez admitting him saying the term has led to the ban and could have averted it by pleading not guilty . Sergio Bousquets of Barcelona escaped a similar ban when he called Marcelo 'Mono' (monkey) which was prominent in the video evidence but was deemed lack of evidence . Sergio had sternly refused the allegation . So Luis could be paying the price of honesty ?
And finally , the Liverpool Football club is entitled to their stand on backing Suarez .The players weren’t forced to put on the shirts , they comprehend that the verdict was harsh and seemingly unjust . In addition appealing to the verdict is another right just like Wayne Rooney appealed to his ban by the UEFA . Where was the consent then ? Plus Suarez is the party going to appeal the ban – not LIVERPOOL FC . It is laughable and up to an extent plausible the link made of this dispute to teams who fielded weak teams last season . Moreover , Liverpool community support Suarez through this torrid time which corresponds to the club’s ever green motto ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’
Hope this was insightful and that there will be many out there who will disagree . But we will all are entitled to our opinions. Finally I sincerely hope Sanity prevails and the FA atleast reduced the irrational ban .
