Why I feel; the Greens will overcome the finalists of last year’s World Cup in
the traditional brief sub continental rivalry which is held after every 2 years.
The 2012 Asia Cup will belong to the Greens because:-

The inaugural session of Bangladesh Premier League concluded on 29th February with the crowning of star-studded ‘Dhaka Gladiators’ as the champions. Earlier, the league commenced on 9th February with a glamorous opening ceremony and consisted of different franchises based on different regions of the country with representation from important players of cricket fraternity.

Dhaka Gladiators and Barisal Burners made it to the final of the Bangladesh Premier League which was played in front of a packed crowd in Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Gladiators took 15.4 overs to overhaul the Barisal Burners total and completed an eight-wicket victory.

Great scenes were captured soon as the winning run was hit. The Dhaka Gladiators side rushed to the ground and celebrated in style. Imran Nazir picked up a stump as a souvenir and roars to the crowd who edged him on. Just the presence of Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal in Gladiators line-up helped them enjoy the cakewalk over Burners.

These two words tend not to be associated with the Greens if history is anything
to go by. Recently they have been applied & associated with the Greens more
than ever before. We are seeing professionalism, discipline & healthy
controversy free environment which are ingredients you need for consistency in
performance over a period of time & for the progress to be achieved without
problems occurring along the way. Yet virtually everyone is calling for the head
of the captain with only 2 series defeats in 18 across all formats of the game
in a year where there is an Asia Cup and T20 World championship scheduled. I
find this mind boggling to say the least.

Former Australia player and Srilankan Coach Dav Whatmore has been appointed as the coach of Pakistan national cricket team. The decision was taken at a PCB governing board meeting at Islamabad today.

Earlier today, Mohammad Ilyas the chief selector of Pakistan cricket board announced his resignation. Iqbal Qasim was appointed in his place as the new chief selector.

Whatmore played 7 tests and 1 ODI for Australia; he led the Sri Lanka to cricketing glory at the 1996 World Cup and also coached Bangladesh from 2003 to 2007. He is appointed as Pakistan coach for 2 years and his first assignment will be to conquer Asia with his new charges.

Iqbal Qasim is a former Pakistan test cricketer, who was a left-arm spinner. He has been in and around the selection committee after his retirement from cricket.

There was no place in the cricketing set-up for former coach and chief selector Mohsin Hassan Khan, who led Pakistan to a crushing whitewash against the number one ranked team in the world, England.

My first interaction with Shahid Afridi lasted just a couple of seconds. It was just a shake of the hands, with a big smile on his clean shaved face, and why not? It was 16th March 2004 to be exact. Pakistan had beaten India in the 2nd ODI of the Samsung Cup and Shahid Afridi who had been recalled in the team after a long gap had played a big part in victory by scoring 80(58) and also taking 2 wickets for 57 runs.

Shahid Afridi back then was all about carefree-ness. You could see it in his behavior, the way he talked, the way he moved, the way he had a smile on his face. Back then Shahid Afridi was all about passion. You could see it in his bowling and you could see it in his batting and the way he fielded.

Back then he was a Super Star. You could see the way crowd chanted his name and wanted him to hit a six every ball when he came out to bat, you could see all the banners with his name written, you could see the crowd going mad when he fielded near the boundary ropes. His bowling was a bonus in those days.
