So after the midweek struggles and success of some clubs in the Carling Cup, the Premier League is around the corner! There are some truly exciting matches this weekend and let’s take a look at which team has it easy and which team will find it hard to get a result.
Manchester United vs Everton :-
First up it is Manchester United vs Everton in the intimidating and hostile atmosphere of Goodison Park. Manchester United after their hammering at Old Trafford by Manchester City took off some pressure by comprehensively beating Aldershot Town in the Carling Cup. Everton didn’t enjoy the best of weeks either after they got knocked out in Extra time by Chelsea in the Carling Cup but won at the weekend after a late surge against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Manchester United have a point to prove and it is expected to be a fascinating end to end match as is always the case between these two teams. Manchester United haven’t won there since 2007. Last season they came very close when they were leading 3-1 but conceded 2 late goals and it ended as a draw.
Chelsea vs Arsenal :-
Chelsea endured a tiring and excruciating 90 minutes last weekend against a spirited QPR side and lost 1-0 eventually ending up with 9 men. Arsenal meanwhile have been fighting their way back up in the table trying to win over some discontent fans. Last week Robin Van Persie came off the bench against Stoke City to inspire a 2-1 victory. With Arsenal winning at Stamford Bridge last year, Chelsea will be looking to make amends to their defeat last week.
Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers :-
Manchester City on the back of their crushing 6-1 victory over arch rivals Manchester United won against Wolves during midweek in the Carling Cup too. City won 5-2 and the match took place at Molinuex. Tomorrow’s match takes places at Etihad Stadium and Wolves have been in seriously poor form lately with fans calling for Mick Mccarthy’s head. Tomorrow is expected to be another lost battle for Wolves.
Norwich City vs Blackburn Rovers :-
Norwich City played against Liverpool at Anfield last week and admirably came from a 1-0 deficit to level the scores after Grant Holt scored an equalizer. Tomorrow they face a revitalized Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road. Blackburn Rovers this week became the first team to beat Newcastle United this season after Gael Givet scored a last minute winner during extra time in the Carling Cup. They beat Newcastle 4-3 in a hugely entertaining match. Steve Kean is another manager who the fans want out although it seems as if he could hang on for a little while longer.
Sunderland vs Aston Villa :-
Sunderland face Aston Villa at home this weekend as they look to continue their revival after a poor start to the season. Sunderland won 2-0 away against Bolton last week while Aston Villa were on the end of poor refereeing decisions that saw Aston Villa defender Chris Herd sent off for an apparent stamp on Jonathon Olsson. They lost 2-1 and with Aston Villa striker Darren Bent who moved to Sunderland for 24 million this January coming to play at the Stadium Of Light for the first time since the transfer, it is expected to be a very good match to watch and Darren Bent will be looking to avoid getting wound up by the intimidating atmosphere.
Swansea City vs Bolton :-
Swansea City host Bolton at the Liberty Stadium this weekend. Swansea City, who were leading 2-0 against Wolves last week threw away their lead and the final result was 2-2. Bolton lost to Sunderland at home and it is matches like these where Swansea City need to pick up most points if they are to stay in this division. With home support behind them, it is expected to be a good match between two teams who like to play football on the ground.
Wigan Athletic vs Fulham :-
Wigan Athletic will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about after a spirited display at St James Park during which they conceded a late goal courtesy of Yoann Cabaye and lost 1-0. They host Fulham who were handed late blows as well by Everton and with Martin Jol’s Fulham on the rise, expect a tight affair at the DW Stadium
West Bromwich Albion vs Liverpool :-
Liverpool travel to the Hawthorns after a Luis Suarez inspired victory against Stoke during midweek. West Brom at home are a match for almost anybody. The pitch is narrow and the crowds are closer to the pitch which helps in creating a truly hostile atmosphere. Liverpool will be looking to give their travelling fans something to cheer about after last week’s draw at home against Norwich City. West Brom, on the back of a 2-1 victory over hated rivals Aston Villa will be looking for some consistency in what should be an entertaining match.
Tottenham vs QPR :-
Tottenham welcome QPR to White Hart Lane in what is going to be a hot London derby. QPR played very impressively in their last match against Chelsea and won 1-0 courtesy of a Helguson penalty while Tottenham won 2-1 away at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers. Expect plenty of fireworks for this one on Super Sunday.
Stoke City vs Newcastle United :-
Stoke City play Newcastle United at the truly fiery Britannia Stadium in a late Monday Night Kick Off. Stoke City lost their last match against Arsenal after Robin Van Persie came off to provide some spark and grabbed the win for the Gunners. They lost during midweek against Liverpool too so expect Tony Pulis to send out a strong committed team to give Newcastle United a hard time. Newcastle United are unbeaten in the Premier League this season.
