So for some Manchester City fans, they believe they have finally come out of Manchester United’s shadow. All over the press, media, social networking websites there are fans of every possible team slating and passing their own judgments about the loss. It was emphatic; it was clinical finishing at its best. I don’t think any Manchester United fan can say the loss was not deserved. Manchester City passed the ball, defense splitting passes and there was a Spanish beauty jinxing his way past the United defense as if they were not there. David Silva terrorized Manchester United and gave them so many problems. However huge the score line, however humiliating the red half of Manchester felt, the question to be raised is, is there any need for knee jerk reactions?
The answer is obviously no. Every club can have bad days at the office. Getting unexpected results is what the Premier League is all about and that is the reason why it is the most followed league in the world. Who had expected Manchester United to blitz their way past through Arsenal with a spectacular score line of 8-2? The joy of Premier League is that you never know what is going to happen next. With this 6-1 result now in the history books, what now for Manchester United Football Club?
Some fans have been flooding every possible message board to criticize Jonny Evans and somehow rightly so. Nothing against the player, let’s not forget he was the one who stood in when Ferdinand was injured 2 years ago and helped Manchester United win the title. Let’s not forget that when others fell down he stood up for the cause of Manchester United. Did their fans over hype him too much then? Perhaps so. Every youngster is prone to mistakes but let’s face it, at a club the size of Manchester United you can get away with some bad games, even a whole season in Johnny Evans case. Now was supposed to be his time, now was why Sir Alex Ferguson agreed to let Pique go to Barcelona. The final verdict is, with some decent defenders in youth and reserve ranks, perhaps it’s time to let the Belfast born Irish lad go. Not because he doesn’t have talent, just because he is not consistently good enough for Manchester United.
The mysterious case of Oliviera Anderson is next. Dubbed “the new Ronaldinho” in his youth, this “new whatever” thing really gets on my nerves. Just the other day I saw a Plymouth player dubbed “the new Alex Oxlade Chamberlain”. Why do we do that? Even the original Chamberlain has not matured into a world class player as of yet. Why place such expectations on young players? Anyway, Anderson was bought from Porto while injured. He never underwent a pre season with Manchester United up until this season. Scholes retired, it was surely time for someone else to step up and not replace him, Scholes will never be replaced, but help Manchester United in other ways? Anderson vowed to have an impact this season and his first few matches certainly helped his case. He was running, bulldozing other midfielders and giving pinpoint passes. What happened to him? Will it be a case of same old for the Brazilian man? I certainly hope not.
Manchester United are at their most dangerous when they are wounded. Fans will expect them to score bucket loads of goals in every match from now on. But Manchester United are bigger than one defeat folks, you will certainly see a reaction as the legendary Sir Alex promised to his fans tomorrow night when Aldershot Town host the mighty Manchester United. Knowing Sir Alex Ferguson’s desire and hunger, he certainly would want to avoid another upset and get the red machine rolling on again starting from Tuesday night. While Aldershot Town seem to be a relatively easy team, Next Saturday its Everton who host last season’s Champions. Even if Manchester United draw or lose I sincerely hope the fans keep their patience and not criticize their own troops that delivered the historic 19th title last season. The mighty giant will roar again if Sir Alex is to be believed. “The Battle is lost, the war will still be won by us” are the words of Manchester United fans all over the internet, let’s see how right they are! Here’s hoping for another cracker of a weekend
